I studied photography at the Polytechnic in London from 1967 to 1971. This included an apprentice year during which I worked for a photographer, Sturlason a/s Polyfoto in Oslo, Norway in 1969 and 1970 and learned to speak Norwegian

From 1971 to 1978, I worked as a professional photographer in Johannesburg, initially self-employed, later with Young Advertising's Exposures studio handling a variety of subjects from motor vehicles (Datsun/Nissan, VW, Jaguar) to cosmetics, food products, clothing, furnishings, a variety of industrial work and corporate portraits

From 1978 to 1986, I held various positions at AGFA Photo in Johannesburg, initially as a sales representative and ultimately as Regional Sales Manager

From 1987 to 2002, I was Regional Manager of the Cape Town branch of AGFA's Consumer Products Division

Since 2002, I have owned and managed Adamastor & Bacchus with my wife, Lynne

The business has several aspects, obviously photography, Adamastor & Bacchus wine and culinary tourism, and writing about food and wine in our weekly newsletter MENUour blogs and for other publications, which have included WINE magazine, Wine.co.za and Classic Wine
